In this topic, we examine the early history of the Earth, from it's formation 4.6 billion years ago through the origin of life around 3.8 billion years ago. The discussion begins with the processes involved in the formation of the earth and solar system. We then examine the probable conditions on the surface of the earth around 3.8 billion years ago and discuss how life could have originated under these condtions
